MlEyv:Ek� Health and Safetv Policv The health and safety of each County of Newell Employee is of primary importance, and therefore, the prevention of occupational injuries and illnesses will be given "PRIORITY OVER OPERATING PRODUCTIVITY WHERE NECESSARY". To the greatest degree possible, management will provide a Health and Safety Management System that conforms to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and follows the best practices within our industry. We acknowledge that in order to be successful, our system must start with proper attitudes towards injury and illness prevention. We also understand that it requires cooperation in all health and safety matters, not only between management and employees, but also between each employee and his or her co-workers. Only through such a cooperative effort can an effective health and safety management system for all be established and preserved. Our objective is a health and safety system that will reduce the number of injuries and illnesses to an absolute minimum, not merely in keeping with, but surpassing, the best experience of municipalities similar to ours. Our health and safety management system will involve: ■ Providing mechanical and physical safeguards to the maximum extent possible. ■ Conducting inspections to find and eliminate unsafe working conditions and practices, to control health hazards, and to comply fully with the health and safety standards for every job. ■ Training all employees in good health and safety practices. ■ Providing necessary personal protective equipment(PPE)and instruction for its use and care. ■ Developing and enforcing health and safety rules, and requiring all employees to cooperate with these rules as a condition of employment. ■ Investigating every incident and accident, promptly and thoroughly, to find out what caused it and to correct the problem to prevent recurrence.
