The 2019 budget includes capital expenditures of $6.8 million and debt repayments of $5.2 million. The full budget document, which provides details of the services and programs provided by the County is available online at www.countyofnewell.ab.ca. A minimum tax levy of $30 per parcel will be applied in 2019. Municipal property taxes are rounded up to $30 on those parcels where the tax levy would be less than $30 based on assessment and the applicable mill rate for that parcel. Upgrading of gravelled road surfaces to non-banned paved surfaces is funded through a special tax levy. The County has been collecting an additional 0.50 mills on all taxable properties since 2003 for paving roads. Council has committed to paving roadways as identified in the Paving Plan to provide paved connector routes throughout the County. Changes to individual tax levies will be affected by changes in the mill rates, requisition increases/decreases for school and/or Newell Foundation as well as market value adjustments and any new construction. 2019 requisitions include school taxes estimated in the amount of $12.5 million, Newell Foundation in the amount of $901 thousand, and Designated Industrial Property Tax requisition of $232 thousand.
